Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Marsh Barton, Exeter – Flexible hybrid working
Contract: Full- or part-time hours (22.5 hours p/w minimum, up to 37.5 hours p/w full-time)
Salary: Up to £28,000 per annum (FTE)
The Company:
Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) is a registered charity providing vital support to patients with blood cancer and other disorders, who attend the Haematology Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E).
ELF’s vision is that every family affected by blood cancer or a blood disorder in the South West receives compassionate, tailored support. We aim to lighten the load, supporting patients and families from diagnosis, through treatment and after treatment, at hospital and in the local community.
Joining ELF offers you more than just a job; we offer you the chance to be part of a collaborative team that makes a real difference to the lives of others. At the same time, we offer excellent opportunities for personal and professional development. We offer flexible working hours, ideal for someone looking to contribute to a meaningful cause in a supportive and dynamic environment.
The Role:
We are seeking a Charity Lead Administrator to play a crucial role in managing the charity’s day-to-day administrative operations. This is a hands-on position where you’ll help keep everything on track while championing ELF’s mission. You’ll be the go-to person in keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the CEO in keeping staff records up to date, including absence and contact details.
- Supporting the CEO with drafting and distributing papers for board meetings.
- Supporting the financial accountant in keeping financial records up to date; managing incoming invoices, and keeping a log of the charity’s monthly expenditure and income.
- Working closely with the fundraising team to manage banking of donated cash and cheques.
- Coordinating our digital communications through keeping our website and social media updated.
- Preparing and sending supporter update emails (through mail merge).
- Managing the charity’s contracts and suppliers, including landlords, and utilities suppliers.
- Promoting ELF’s values, acting as an ambassador for the charity when engaging with donors, patients and other stakeholders.
- Administrative duties to support ad-hoc projects.
The Person:
The successful candidate will have proven administrative experience, a keen eye for detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills. You will be highly IT literate, with familiarity with MS Office, including Excel.
The ideal candidate will be confident working with numbers, as this role requires management of budgets and finance. Ideally, you will come with some financial administration experience, however this is not essential.
As our Charity Lead Administrator, you will need to have the ability to use your initiative and creatively problem-solve. Exceptional organisational skills are required, allowing you to multitask and manage priorities efficiently. You’ll have a hands-on mindset with an unwavering commitment to getting the job done.
This role can be offered on either a full-time or part-time basis. We can be flexible with how the hours sit across the week to fit in with your schedule, however we do ask that the role holder works during core hours and has some flexibility to occasionally attend events and fundraisers outside of hours. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of two days per week based in the Marsh Barton office.
The Rewards:
In return, we offer a flexible hybrid working environment and full- or part-time working hours. We are offering a competitive salary package of up to £28,000 per annum (full-time equivalent based on 37.5 hours p/w), 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata), pension scheme, Blue Light discount, paid volunteering days, a free counselling service for all staff, and a culture which encourages professional development.
As a charity, we are fully committed to safeguarding. All successful applicants will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check before joining our team.
If you are passionate about supporting our charity and have the skills to keep our operations running smoothly, we would love to hear from you.

Interviews will take place week commencing 14th October.

About Fitzgerald HR
Lucy Fitzgerald set up Fitzgerald HR as a HR outsourcing company in 2008 when she made the decision to freelance as an HR consultant.
She began to build a client base, providing a service based on an
understanding that small to mid-sized organisations without internal HR,
as well as HR teams within larger companies needed flexible, hands-on,
commercial HR solutions.
Today we are a full-service HR consultancy providing people management and development solutions to organisations throughout the UK and internationally. We partner with our clients to help them recruit, retain, develop and lead great people.
