A bit about us
We’re the full-service HR consultancy that synchronises seamlessly with our clients’ businesses. An outsourced team that feels like an in-house superpower.
We think that expert guidance on how to recruit, retain, develop and lead people should be available to every business, big or small. Because the right advice at the right time, from the right specialist, can be game-changing.
We’re here to make those conversations happen. We help our clients to recruit, manage and retain the best people for their organisations, whether as a one-off project or an ongoing service. The work we do with them enables them to create a culture where everyone can bring the best version of themselves to work.
Ultimately, people are the foundation of our clients’ success and we think they can be amazing if they’re given the right environment and support. Together, we help our clients create a great place to work and make sure they’re ready to conquer their corner of the world.
We know that even in the best of workplaces, difficult employee issues arise. We help our clients face these challenges, simplify the complex, and handle everything with care and consideration for their people and culture.
We eat, sleep and breathe this stuff. From people strategy to HR admin, we’re here to help – whether it’s a people team needing additional resource, or a business wanting to outsource their HR. However they need us we’ll be there: on call, or on site, whatever works best for them.
We’re on a mission to show brilliant companies what happens when they hire really smart people (that’s us) to help them be the very best employers they can be. The only thing we can’t handle? Letting our clients down.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll work closely with clients and colleagues to deliver exceptional work, manage accounts and lead your team of around 10 people. As a member of our leadership team, you’ll also be part of helping us develop the strategic direction of our business.
We think this is a super exciting role, where you’ll have the opportunity to come on board just as we’re starting on the next journey of Fitzgerald. Your responsibilities will be many and varied, but never boring. Here’s a brief summary of your day to day role:
- Resolve issues, fix problems – we like to face anything that’s not working head on so we’re not still talking about the same concerns a year later!
- Develop and implement service delivery strategies with the leadership team so we keep getting better at what we do.
- Work with your team so that our strategies and initiatives are fully embedded and understood.
- Maintain, and sometimes develop, our account management practices so that everyone knows exactly how to deliver an outstanding experience for our clients.
- Grow and develop fantastic relationships with key accounts, and with our partners, suppliers and associates.
- Be an outstanding member of the leadership team, working together with us to achieve our mission.
- Provide brilliant advice and guidance to clients on complex people issues and initiatives, including overseeing projects and casework.
- Lead the People Partnering team members so they have the skills they need to do an outstanding job, and be engaged and happy.
- Quality review the work drafted by your team, and other internal teams, to make sure it meets our quality standards.
About you
You’re passionate about doing a brilliant job and you’ll do whatever it takes to achieve a great outcome, even when the going gets tough. You understand that worthwhile things can be difficult to accomplish and take time, perseverance and discipline to achieve. You care about delivering the best service possible and set the bar high for everything you do.
You’re supportive and empathetic, but you’re willing to make tough decisions and have the difficult conversations when needed – and you know that’s important.
You look for win-win outcomes and hold yourself, and your team, to the highest of standards.
In terms of your career, you have lots of experience working in a generalist HR role, and you can draw on this to deliver commercially focussed results for clients.
You’ve supported and advised managers and leaders across a range of HR/people issues and you know how to spot the risks and provide informed advice to team members, colleagues, and clients.
You have a proven background of leading and developing a team and have the ability to work with your team members to get the best out them, meet deadlines and achieve great things.
You’re a strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement organisational plans and have confidence in consulting with, influencing, and partnering with key stakeholders up to board level.
You have a level 7 CIPD qualification (or you’re working towards it) – or you may have an equivalent relevant qualification. Your written and verbal communication skills are outstanding and you’ve drafted lots of reports and documentation.
If you’ve worked in an HR/People consultancy or client services environment, that would be great, as would experience of working as part of a leadership team – but this is not essential. We’ll put in place a development programme to fill any gaps in experience that you may have.
Perhaps it goes without saying, but you are, of course, comfortable using various IT systems, including MS Office. And finally, you have a driving licence so you can get out and about to visit your team and clients.

We’re probably biased, but we think this role is exciting, interesting, fun, challenging, full of growth opportunities… we could go on. All that aside, we also offer:

About Fitzgerald HR
Lucy Fitzgerald set up Fitzgerald HR as a HR outsourcing company in 2008 when she made the decision to freelance as an HR consultant.
She began to build a client base, providing a service based on an
understanding that small to mid-sized organisations without internal HR,
as well as HR teams within larger companies needed flexible, hands-on,
commercial HR solutions.
Today we are a full-service HR consultancy providing people management and development solutions to organisations throughout the UK and internationally. We partner with our clients to help them recruit, retain, develop and lead great people.
